On Wednesday, February 22, 2022, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) awarded Taylor Swift the World Recording Artist of the Year.
This was Swift’s third time receiving the award, establishing her as the most successful artist in the organization’s decade-long existence. Swift has won the award earlier in 2014 and 2019, and ranked between second and third in 2015, 2017, 2020, and 2021.
According to the website of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the Global Recording Artist of the Year award is based on the artist’s worldwide performance in both digital and physical music formats over the whole year. This includes all streams, vinyl releases, and album covers from their discography.
Swift’s acclaim resulted from the release of her most recent album, Midnights, in October 2022.
Frances Moore, chief executive officer of IFPI, stated in a press release, “It is an honor to present Taylor Swift with the IFPI World Recorded Artist Award.” Taylor is a truly stunning international superstar who continues to grow and improve as an artist while keeping an extraordinarily deep relationship with her international fanbase.
Swift was followed in the rankings by the K-pop sensations BTS. It marks the group’s third consecutive appearance in the Top 3 after back-to-back victories in 2020 and 2021.
