The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reported 7.35 million foreign visitor arrivals in Thailand between January 1 and October 26 following the removal of COVID-19 restrictions.
The top five source markets were Malaysia with 1.25 million arrivals, India with 661,751 arrivals, Laos with 538,789 arrivals, Cambodia with 373,811 arrivals, and Singapore with 365,593 passengers, according to a statement issued by the TAT on Friday (Oct 28).
Tourism is a significant driver of growth in Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy, and the country’s finance ministry forecast on Friday that 10.3 million international tourists will arrive this year and 21.5 million will arrive in 2023.
That compares to merely 428,000 foreign visitors in 2018 and roughly 40 million in 2019, when tourism accounted for 12 percent of the country’s gross domestic product.
In the second part of the year, the government plans to raise 400 billion baht ($10.6 billion) from tourism.
