Netizens complain about data leaks at the MyTax portal

The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has been brought into the public eye for a number of reasons, one of which being an alleged data leak that occurred at the web portal that it uses to allow taxpayers to file their taxes.

IRB’s MyTax website is a one-stop centre for taxpayers to handle their tax matters online. Earlier today, citizens took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the fact that the personal information of taxpayers could be easily accessed by anyone through the website. Netizens have been complaining about this issue.

What is MyTax Portal?

If you have visited the Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia (LHDN) website in preparation for completing your annual taxes, you will likely be forwarded to MyTax.

MyTax is a service portal that will launch in December 2020 and provide taxpayers with the option to obtain their most recent information without having to visit the LHDN office. It facilitates the public’s access to information and services on a variety of tax-related issues.

While announcing the introduction of the MyTax platform, the LHDN had also emphasized that the site will be an effective tool for reducing revenue leakage and increasing tax collection. How precisely does MyTax function? What type of convenience does it afford taxpayers? How do you gain access?

MyTax is a single-sign-on portal where you can locate and access all tax-related materials and services. This essentially implies that with MyTax, you will no longer be required to enter your passwords several times in order to access the LHDN’s various services and information from multiple places.

You’ll discover links within MyTax that let you to complete tasks such as filing your income tax returns via e-Filing, paying your taxes via byrHASiL, and changing your tax profile via e-Kemaskini. In addition, you will have access to a wealth of tax-related information and advice, as well as a personalized dashboard and inbox that keeps you abreast of your most recent tax situation.
