The new speaker of the Melaka Assembly, Ibrahim Durum, was sworn in

Philippines – Melaka State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Ibrahim Durum, a former member of the state’s executive council, was sworn in today as the state’s legislative assembly’s speaker.

A motion to appoint Ibrahim as the state’s first deputy governor was proposed and seconded at a special meeting of the 15th Melaka State Assembly, which was held at the start of the state’s first term. Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali proposed the motion, and State Youth, Sports, and Non-Governmental Organization Development Committee chairman VP Shanmugam seconded it.

The bill had the support of 15 assembly members, with five others voting against it and eight voting against it in the other house of the legislature.

The deputy speaker of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly has been appointed as Datuk Khaidirah Abu Zahar, an assemblyman from Rim, making her the first woman in the state’s history to hold this post. Datuk Khaidirah Abu Zahar is an assemblyman from Rim.
