MalaysiaMalaysia – Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, head of the Barisan Nasional (BN), termed the coalition’s huge win in the Johor poll as “unexpected.”

He said that the BN has regained people’ confidence in order to rule the Johor government once again.

He said that however, I would want to caution the party not to be conceited in light of the outcome.

“BN’s triumph is a gift to all Johoreans, who supported us in return.” Ahmad Zahid noted in his remarks at the BN state election command center along Jalan Yahya Awal

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the president of Umno, has said that he would support Johor BN chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad for mentri besar and will propose his name to Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar for his approval.

“Insya Allah (God willing), Hasni will resume his responsibilities as Johor mentri besar after getting Sultan Ibrahim’s approval.

“As a result, BN will continue to help Hasni in carrying out the coalition’s promises to the people in the ‘Ikhtiar BN Johor,'” he said.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the MP for Bagan Datuk, praised BN leaders for their support, particularly constituent party presidents like MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong and MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran.

He also praised BN Advisory Board Chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who served as the coalition’s campaign manager in the state election.

Meanwhile, BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the coalition’s victory will maintain peace and unity in Johor for the next five years.

“We were able to reclaim Johor from Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the 14th general election (GE14) with the cooperation of everyone,” he stated.

BN had already won a super-majority in Johor, completing a dramatic turnaround after being chastised by voters in GE14.

After slightly over half of Johor’s eligible voters cast votes, BN, backed by lynchpin Umno, won 40 seats in the 56-seat state legislature. The coalition now has a two-thirds majority in the state legislature.
