Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, the Sultan of Kedah, Malaysia, has consented to the dissolution of the State Assembly on June 28.

Dato’ Seri Haji Muhammad Sanusi bin Md Nor, the Menteri Besar of Kedah, said in a statement on Sunday, “His Royal Highness has given his consent for the 14th state legislative assembly to be dissolved on Wednesday.”

Menteri Besar sought the consent of His Royal Highness for the dissolution of the State Assembly. He revealed that the state government would be run by a caretaker administration from June 28. He urged the officials to continue to work as usual until the new state government is formed in Kedah, a state in northwest Malaysia.

The Menteri Besar of Kedah thanked state secretary Datuk Paduka Amar Datuk Sheikh Mahmood Naim and federal agencies in Kedah for cooperating with him since May 17, 2020. He also thanked the opposition leaders. He went on to thank the people of the state.

Muhammad Sanusi bin Md Nor said, “My highest recognition to the people of Kedah who have supported the state government in every effort implemented.” He also thanked the state executive councilors for supporting the daily affairs of state administration.

He appreciated the role of state administration in handling the two terrible natural disasters. He said that floods in Yan and Kuala Muda districts as well as in Kampung Iboi, Baling, affected people. Muhammad Sanusi said that the state administration handled the situation well.

He said, “We were able to successfully face these tests thanks to the concern and caring nature of His Majesty the Sultan, His Majesty the Sultanah and Raja Muda who often gave advice and reminded me to ensure that the people’s lives are the utmost priority.”

The 15th Kedah state election will be held this year to elect the State Assembly members of the 15th Kedah State Legislative Assembly.
