President BBM rings NYSE closing bell

On September 19, 2016, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was invited to ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) (Tuesday, 20 September, PHL time).

At four o’clock in the afternoon, the closing bell indicated that the market was closed for the day.

On the bell platform with Marcos were First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno. Marcos was accompanied by the others.

The Philippine leader is currently on the second day of a journey that will last for a total of six days in the United States of America.

He is scheduled to make a presentation in front of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

It wasn’t until 1995 that the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) started letting notable people other than its floor managers proclaim the end of trading in the stock market.
