Devotees Over Palm Sunday Amidst the COVID-19 Surge

The holy week begins and as Palm Sunday, which for the second year straight would be seen under severe health conventions to capture the quick flood in Covid-19 cases.

For Catholics, Palm Sunday is a recognition of Jesus Christ’s modest and victorious section to Jerusalem, just to be killed later by the very individuals who invited him. For this reason, the religious group are preparing and showing their devotion through this.

In fact. Diocese supervisor Romulo Valles, president, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), focused on that social distance is a need in this season of pandemic to stem the transmission of the infection.

Along with this, Fr. Jerome Secillano, leader secretary of the CBCP Permanent Committee on Public Affairs, said individuals may follow the administrations on the web or on TV and may hold their palm branches while the cleric presents the petition of the gift of palms. That’s why Secillano called attention to that the move to nontraditional act of Palm Sunday and different exercises during the Holy Week doesn’t imply that it is less sacred.

In view of this, Many Catholics in the Philippines overcame the danger of Covid on Sunday to go to a mass external the Baclaran Church in Manila to observe Palm Sunday, denoting the start of the Holy Week.

Wearing face covers and noticing physical separating to shield themselves from COVID-19, they waved their palm fronds as the minister sprinkled blessed water on them.

They seek divine intervention that this pandemic will end. They trust the (everyday environments) will improve, particularly since there are a developing number of individuals going hungry.

But strict social affairs will be prohibited from Monday until Easter to conform to stricter isolate limitations the Philippine government reimposed in the capital and close by areas to moderate the sharp ascent in COVID-19 contaminations.

Consequently, about 80% of individuals in the Philippines are Catholic. At the St. Peter Parish in Quezon City, candles were appended to purge seats to address parishioners participating in Palm Sunday festivities outside the congregation or on the web.
