Netizens critics Muhyiddin for claiming “COVID-19 victory”

Malaysia – Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that Malaysians are able to go back to normal lives now due to efforts taken by the Government for start of the pandemic (which he credits himself for).

Muhyiddin said the measures taken by the Government should be lauded for the success in combatting the coronavirus.
“For example, the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) saw almost a 100% uptake on vaccination among the populace.

“And I’m also glad that the Government took up some of the recommendations made by the National Recovery Council (NRC), chaired by me, such as reopening our borders and transitioning ourselves to endemic phase on April 1,” he said in his Hari Raya address.

However, netizens were unimpressed with Muhyiddin’s statement and took to social media to deride the Pagoh MP.

“Bongok namanya tu.. Masa jadi Piyem ntah apa yang dibuatnya,” said user Mr Nice Guy.

During the pandemic, while Muhyiddin was initially credited for taking swift action to lockdown the country following the infamous Sheraton Move, he was later panned for not providing sufficient aid to the public who had lost jobs and income. It was during the hardship that two online movements started – the first being the White Flag Movement where citizens who are in need of food and other supplies waved white flags outside their homes, so that others could come and provide for them. The other was the Black Flag Movement, which was aimed at urging Muhyiddin to resign over his failure to handle the economic crisis triggered by COVID-19
