PKR Sec-Gen: Party performance in state elections to be discussed at the National Congress

Malaysia – According to PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the party’s weak performance in the state elections between 2020 and 2022 would be on the topic at the party’s National Congress, which is likely to take place in June.

According to him, the sequence of setbacks prompted changes to their methods, narrative to the public, election instruments training, and data usage in light of the current campaign issues.

He told reporters after presiding over the Lembah Pantai PKR Annual General Meeting in Kerinchi on March 27 that they have never practiced denial syndrome and would address this problem head-on.”

PKR secured just two state assembly seats in the Sabah state election on September 26, 2020, and lost all of the state seats it fought in the Melaka state election last year (November 20) and the Sarawak state election (December 18), but did win one state seat in the recent Johor state election.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said he had not decided whether or not to run for any positions in the party’s election on April 8, and that he was still having a conversation with the leadership of the party and friends about it.

Saifuddin Nasution stated he supported Tian Chua’s decision not to defend his vice-presidential position in the next party election.

According to him, he thinks that he has his own reasons for not running, but most importantly, he (Tian Chua) insists on staying in the party – he wants to boost the party with his skills while not holding a post in the party.

It was also said in reports in the media yesterday that Tian Chua has announced that he would not seek re-election to the vice presidency, but would instead seek re-election to the Batu division chief role, stating that he wanted to boost grassroots support for the party ahead of the next general election.
